Iconic Australian actor Jack Thompson needs no introduction. He is a pioneer, a bon vivant, a raconteur and above all else, an astonishing talent. In The Telegram Man, Jack is playing the lead role of Bill Williams, the telegram man.
With a career so prolific Gary Sweet is a familiar face to Australians everywhere. Gary is taking time out from his most recent feature film Voyage of the Dawn Treader, the latest epic from the Chronicles of Narnia, to star as John Lewis in The Telegram Man. This is the first time Jack and Gary have worked together and the scene is set for some powerful drama as Gary’s character is destined to hear the worst kind of news.
From her early roles in The Man from Snowy River and All the Rivers Run, to her huge success with SeaChange, Sigrid Thornton has long been Australia’s darling – a perception challenged by her most recent appearance in Underbelly: The Golden Mile. We are blessed to have this most beautiful, accomplished and emotive actress playing the role of Barbara Lewis.
Born into a family of actors, writers and artists dating back to the moulin rouge era, Jennifer Alliston-Lewis made the transition into the performing arts industry after years of study and work in fashion. Although primarily an actor, Jennifer has also been involved in song writing, screen writing and  theatre & film production. Jennifer joins the cast as Shirl – the town’s local publican and confidant to all.
Tessa Nethercote-Way has a strong technical and performance-based background in all styles of dance, and has a great passion for acting and Visual Arts. She believes that the art of acting has a spellbinding ability to take both the actor and the audience from the ordinary to the extraordinary  - and hopes to find a long and productive career within the medium. In The Telegram Man, Tessa is playing the role of Katie, John’s daughter.
Karen Garnsey has come late to acting. She has worked on many shorts and is currently studying advance techniques at the Sydney Talent Company. In The Telegram Man she plays the role of Mrs. Grady the town’s postmistress.
Leof Kingsford-Smith‘s career extends from London’s West End and English repertory to the Sydney Opera House and a host of smaller Australian theatres. In almost four decades he has played everything from Shakespeare to Ayckbourn, Emlyn Williams and David Williamson in roles ranging from the tragic King Lear and Mark Antony to The Coroner and Rex, as well as two of Australia’s hottest TV series: Underbelly and Home and Away. In The Telegram Man he plays the role of Gerry – a local townsman in the Telegraph Hotel.
We are very lucky to have Saffy playing the role of Charlie, the telegram man’s dearest friend and most trusted companion. Saffy has carved an illustrious career in her 11 short years, with work on the television program ‘Snobs’, commercials for LG, Samsung and Korean Air, and the short film Paranoid. She is an internationally recognised Agility Dog Master and Australian Champion, Jumping Dog Master, Snooker Dog Master and Strategic Pairs Master. Saffy has produced a show biz dynasty with two of her children staring in a variety of television programs and commercials. Saffy is looking forward to taking a break from digging holes, chasing rabbits, learning tricks and caring for her new grand daughter to star opposite Jack Thompson in The Telegram Man.
